Policing football matches across Merseyside
Supporting Policing
Merseyside Police has a number of officers who are
trained to work in specialist units to support policing across the
region.
Dogs
Our dog section is used for general patrol duties. These dogs
are used to sniff out criminals and belongings left at crime
scenes. When it is necessary, we also use these dogs to chase and
detain criminals because four legs are usually faster than two!
Mounted
Our mounted section assists neighbourhoods in reducing
incidents of crime and disorder. The horses are
used for public order & major incidents, as well as high
visibility patrolling at football matches, rugby matches, race
meetings and other special events. The horses are also used for
general community patrols.
Air support
Our air support section comprises each police force in the North
West, who work together to deliver an improved air support service
in our region. This group is known as the North West Air
Operations Group (NWAOG).
Marine
Our underwater and marine section are specialists in the search
and recovery of bodies, property, decomposed bodies (on land),
submerged vehicles and missing persons.
You can read more about each section by selecting from the menu
on the left.
