Diversity Team
The Diversity team is committed to helping create a better organisation in which everyone feels valued. We also aim to ensure that Merseyside Police effectively engages with its diverse communities to ensure that we are able to identify and fully understand their needs. This will increase confidence and ensure that we are able to provide a better service to those who make contact with Merseyside Police and access our services.
The Diversity team consists of three elements:
Action Support Team
The Action Support Team are responsible for ensuring that Merseyside Police effectively communicates with its diverse communities to identify the needs of such groups and increase their confidence in Merseyside Police through meeting with, consulting with and involving these communities in every aspect of how policing is delivered.
We promote equality and diversity both internally and externally by developing effective and meaningful relationships with communities and partner agencies to tackle hate related crime and by addressing quality of life issues for minority groups and individuals. We support and promote the work of the Independent Advisors Group to help them achieve their aims and objectives as a "critical friend" to Merseyside Police.
Positive Action Team
As an organisation of over 7000 people it is important that our workforce reflects the communities that we serve. Our policing style is all about reaching into the local communities, listening to their concerns and working with them to solve problems and improve quality of life.
As an equal opportunities employer we are committed to ensuring that people see the force as an employer of choice and one that embraces diversity. To this end the Positive Action Team was formed and tasked with working to encourage and support people from underrepresented groups to consider a career with Merseyside Police.
The team comprises of four full time staff working on recruitment. Additional staff members are currently being recruited to work on career progression and retention. The team deals with people across all the diversity strands and seeks to work with a wide variety of external agencies and our own internal support groups, such as the Black Police Association, Gay / Lesbian Support Network and the Disability Network.
