Merseyside Police Insight Scheme
A police officer talking to a member of the public
Police Officer for a day
Do you want an insight into the working life of a police officer? Are you curious about the work of your local officers within your community? The Insight scheme offers you a first-hand view of a police officer on patrol, and all of the challenges that they face in their daily lives.
Maybe you are interested in a career with Merseyside Police or are looking to volunteer your time to assist your local community? The scheme will provide a one-off opportunity to gain knowledge of the Force before you apply.
The Insight scheme aims to improve the relationship between the public and the police. One way to achieve this is to let the public directly experience the work of a police officer working within one of our Neighbourhood Policing teams.
Who can join the scheme?
The scheme is open to anyone who is over 18 years of age and is a resident, temporary or permanent, of Merseyside.
We will carry out police checks on anyone wishing to join the scheme, and you will have to supply proof of age and identity before taking part.
If you have a criminal record, or caution for a criminal offence, you may not be permitted to take part in the scheme.
Because of the physical demands of being a police officer the scheme may not be suitable for everyone, but we will try our very best to accommodate members of the public with physical difficulties.
On the day
You will be given a tour of the police station and you will meet with the police officers that you will be spending the day with.
You will be required to wear a high visibility jacket so that you can be easily identified as an observer.
We will provide further details of the scheme should you choose to apply.
How to apply
Please complete the three forms found on the right hand side of this page. Once we receive your application we will send further details to you. We will require you to supply further information to enable police checks to be carried out and provide an indication about why you want to take part in the scheme. You will also need to tell us about any special requirements that you may have for the day, for instance any medical conditions that you have that would affect your day with us.
The only thing that we would ask after this is that you have great day out, and that you let us know what you thought about the scheme once your day is over by completing a brief questionnaire before you go home.
If you want to contact us regarding the scheme you can telephone us at 0151 777 1631 and speak to Linda Girvan. Please post your completed application forms to Merseyside Police Insight Scheme, Unit 24 Century Buildings, Tower Street, Brunswick Business Park, Liverpool, L3 3BJ.
