Witness Appeal - Robbery - Highfield Road - Birkenhead

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Birkenhead on Tuesday (13 November 2012).

The incident happened on Highfield Road at around 4pm when the victim, a 35-year-old man, was approached by an offender as he was about to get into his car.

He was forced to the ground and the bag he was carrying, which contained a quantity of cash, was stolen.

The victim received minor facial injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

The offender was seen to run off in the direction of Ruskin Avenue. He is described as 5ft 10in tall, of slim build with broad shoulders. He was wearing a balaclava, a dark coloured tracksuit top and light coloured tracksuit bottoms.

Officers are investigating the incident and have been searching for CCTV as well as witnesses to the offence. Crime scene investigators have also examined the area.

DC Chris O'Connor said: "This would have been a frightening incident for the man who although not seriously hurt was left very shaken.

"Highfield Road is a busy road and there would have been lots of people about at that time. We urge anyone with any information in connection to the incident, or who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area around this time, to call us in case they can help our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2265, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
