Armed robbery - Old Colliery Road - Prescot

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a robbery at a convenience store in Prescot on Thursday, 17th April.

At about 3.40pm two males, armed with a knife and an axe, entered the Colliery Convenience on Old Colliery Road approached a member of staff and made demands for cash and cigarettes.

The items were given to the males and they left the premises along Old Colliery Road.

Although uninjured the staff member was left distressed following their ordeal.

Patrols attended, a search of the area and house-to-house enquiries were undertaken. CCTV is also being sought.

The first offender is described as being white and was wearing grey and black hooded jacket, grey tracksuit pants and black gloves.

The second offender is described as being  white and was wearing a black hooded top with his face covered.

Detective Sergeant Catherine Walsh , said: "We are absolutely determined to find these offenders so they cannot commit further crimes but we need the public's help in piecing together what happened before and after they committed this crime.

"Old Colliery Road is a busy thoroughfare and I would appeal for people to cast their minds back and if they were out and about at that time and think they saw anything that in hindsight seems suspicious, to contact us with that information. I'd also like to reassure people that incidents like this are thankfully very rare and neighbourhood officers will be patrolling this area.

"Information that seems trivial to them may turn out to be crucial for us in catching these offenders."
