Merseyside Police is appealing for information following an assault in Crosby yesterday (Sunday, 15 July) that has left a youth with serious head injuries.

Officers were called at 3.45am to a report of an assault taking place on Coronation Road. On arrival officers found a 16-year-old male with serious head injuries.

Paramedics took the male to hospital by ambulance. His condition is described as critical.

The scene was cordoned off for examination, a search of the area was conducted and house-to-house enquiries have been undertaken.

Detective Inspector David Keegan, said: "A youth has been left in a serious condition and we urge anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us.

"The victim had been riding a distinctive new Reebok bicycle prior to being found. It would appear that during the assault this bike was taken. Anyone who may has seen, found or even been offered this bike is urged to contact me. I would also ask that anyone in the Crosby or Waterloo areas that may have seen a bike being ridden or pushed around this time to contact me as they may have information vital to this investigation.

"I am also keen to speak to two males that were seen in the Coronation Road area around the time of the incident as they may be able to assist the police with their enquiries. The men are described as being aged in their mid-twenties and were dressed casually.

"We are treating this extremely seriously and urge people to help us bring those responsible to justice."
