Merseyside Police, together with partner agencies, will deal professionally with all incidents involving planned or completed incidents of assisted suicide. All members of the Force, whilst investigating the possible commission of the offence of aiding and abetting the suicide or attempted suicide of another, will act in a compassionate and supportive manner, being non-judgemental as to the wishes of those involved. At all times during an investigation, consideration will be given to the potential impact on any cultural or religious issues.

This policy aims to support a common framework that helps all responsible partner agencies to work together for the protection of children and young people. The main aim of the policy is to safeguard and protect the lives of children and young people by reducing the risk of exploitation, identifying risk at the earliest opportunity and by disrupting offender activity. When exploitation has occurred, to ensure that reported incidents are responded to and investigated through the Criminal Justice system from initial reporting through to the disposal stage.

The aim of this policy is to ensure Merseyside Police’s response to dealing with people who may have mental health needs or learning disabilities are appropriate, proportionate and in line with College of Policing Approved Professional Practice and locally agreed multi-agency protocols.

It aims to resolve incidents and enquiries at the earliest point and is designed to ensure that all service requests receive an appropriate response.
