Update - Garston murder victim named as 36 year-old Paul Millea

Merseyside Police can confirm the man who died has been formally identified as 36 year-old Paul Millea who was from the Garston area.

A post mortem revealed that Mr Millea died from a stab wound to the chest.

An investigation into his death is ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area of Shrewsbury Road at around 11.30pm last night or has any information which could assist with the investigation to get in touch.

A 24 year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Kameen said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Shrewsbury Road who may have witnessed what happened or has any information which could assist with the investigation to get in touch.

"Even the smallest piece of information could be vital in assisting the investigation."

Merseyside Police can confirm detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 36 year-old man in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 18 June.

Officers were called to Shrewsbury Road, Garston, at 11.30pm last night (Saturday) to reports the man had been found in the street after suffering a stab wound to the chest.

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he subsequently passed away. A post mortem is due to take place today.

The man has yet to be formally identified and his next of kin are in the process of being informed.

A 24 year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody where she will be questioned by detectives.

An investigation is currently underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are ongoing in the local area.
