We have today, Friday 9th November, welcomed the sentencing of three men who have been jailed for a total of 26 years for firearms conspiracy offences.

Josh Ali, 25, of Montrose Road, Tuebrook, Joseph Halsall, 23, of Newsham Drive, Tuebrook and Daniel Humphries, 23, of Waltham Road, Anfield, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today.

All three men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import a prohibited firearm, conspiracy to import ammunition; conspiracy to sell or transfer prohibited firearms and conspiracy to possess ammunition.

They were sentenced to a total of eight years and eight months for the offences.

Detective Superintendent John Webster said: "The sentencing today sends out a strong message to those involved in gun crime - Merseyside Police is committed to taking you off our streets.

"These three men conspired to import potentially lethal weapons onto the streets of Merseyside. Weapons are not toys and in the wrong hands can cause serious injury or even death to the offenders using them, and more importantly to innocent members of the public who may be nearby.

"Thankfully these three men are now behind bars thanks to the fantastic efforts of a team of officers.

"Tackling the issue of gun crime is a priority for the whole of the force and I would urge anyone with information about the storage and use of firearms to speak to us so we can continue to take positive action and make your streets safer.

"We will act on all information reported to us through Crimestoppers. Anyone with information about guncrime, or those involved with firearms, can DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
