At around 6pm on Wednesday 15 January, a report was received of entry being gained to a property on New Chester Road and a 52-year-old man being seriously assaulted.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his head and body.
Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries have been ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Nilsen, said: “We would like to speak to the man pictured as he may have information to assist our enquiries.
"This is a very serious assault which included the use of a hammer striking to the victim’s head, leaving him with multiple injuries.
“If you recognise the man pictured, please come forward to us, directly or anonymously, and we will take positive action and out those responsible for this serious violence before the courts."
