We can confirm that officers are this evening, Friday 13th November, in the Walton area.
We received a call at just before 5.30pm to reports of a loud bang in the Hale Road area.
Officers attended at the scene and found evidence in the street of a firearms discharge.
There are no reports at this stage of anyone being injured or any damage being caused.
An investigation is underway and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Chief Inspector Col Rooney said: “The investigation is in the very early stages and we are making numerous enquiries to establish what has taken place. There are no suggestions at this stage that anyone has been injured.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area of Hale Road tonight who saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”
Anyone who was in the area or has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 789 of 13th November.
