We are appealing for information following a suspected arson in Croxteth last night (Wednesday 14 July).
At around 10.55pm Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) and police were called to Sandicroft Road following reports that a white Volkswagen Tiguan was on fire.
MFRS extinguished the fire and nobody was injured.
Significant damage was caused to the vehicle.
It was reported that a male made off from the scene in the direction of Croxteth Country Park. He is described as of slim build, wearing a blue medical mask and a grey tracksuit.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible for starting the fire and police are asking for anyone with any information to come forward.
Inspector Gavin Mulchay said: “Although, thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident, deliberately setting fire to a car is extremely reckless and we are determined to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.
“If you were in the Croxteth area last night or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, please let us know. Likewise, if you have any CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist with the investigation, please get in touch so we can take action and find those responsible.
“Whether you contact us directly or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers, rest assured, your information will be acted upon.”
Anyone in the area with information, CCTV or dashcam can contact us on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 21000492100.
