Officers carrying out open land searches in Kirkdale this morning (Friday 30 April) have recovered a firearm.
At around 9.45am a gas powered pistol was recovered by the Walton Lane Community Team in the grassed area on Limekiln Lane.
The open land searches taking place in Kirkdale today are part of a joint community impact day working with Liverpool City Council and Torus Housing.
Officers are responding to the concerns of local residents about issues such as anti-social behaviour and drug misuse in the area.
Sergeant Sean Harrison, Walton Lane Community Sergeant said: “Removing this weapon will make our community a much safer place to be.
"The weapon has been safely recovered and our enquiries will continue, in order to find out if it has been used before, and to whom it belongs.
“We’re absolutely committed to tackling those involved in all serious organised crime, including gun crime, and we have dedicated significant resources into taking weapons and offenders off our streets. The use of firearms will never be tolerated.
“Information from the local community makes a big difference, so if you know where dangerous weapons are being stored, carried or used, let us know and we will take positive action.”
If you have any information about the suspected storage, possession and use of firearms and ammunition, please contact us directly via @MerPolCC on Twitter, 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook, by calling 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or report online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
