Officers in St Helens have arrested a man and seized weapons following a vehicle stop last night, Monday 12 April.
At around 8.50pm, officers sighted a Vauxhall Astra being driven at excess speed on Hard Lane. The car stopped on Windleshore Road and the driver and vehicle were searched. A number of items were seized, including knives (pictured), which the driver could not account for. He was detained and the items were seized.
A 34-year-old man from Haydock was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and possession of offensive weapons. He has been taken to a police station for questioning.
Inspector Rob Budden said: “This was a smart bit of police work which has removed a potentially dangerous driver from the roads. If you suspect that anyone is driving impaired by drink or drugs, please report them. The alternative could be catastrophic for other road users and pedestrians. Likewise, if you are in possession or storing any suspected weapons without good reason, we will deal with it accordingly.”
