We have arrested a male after an assault and robbery in Birkenhead Park last night, Thursday 15 April.
Around 5.35pm, it was reported that the victim, a man in his 40s, was attacked by a group of males and struck around the head with a bike seat stork as he cycled into Birkenhead Park via Hoylake Road. His pedal bike was also stolen.
Officers attended the scene, and after a short pursuit into Flaybrick Cemetery a 15-year-old male from Bidston was arrested on suspicion of assault. The victim's bike was also recovered.
The suspect was taken to a police station for questioning and has been released under investigation.
Chief Inspector Karl Baldwin said: “This was a callous attack on a man who was simply cycling into a local park.
“We will act on all information given to us to bring the males responsible for this to justice, and I'd ask anyone who was in the area yesterday evening and saw anything suspicious from around 5.20pm to get in touch.
"If you were driving around the park at the time, you may have dashcam showing the offenders, so we would ask that you take a look and let us know if there is anything that could be significant."
