Detective Sergeant Kerri Ward said: “We are keeping an open mind as to the motive of this violent attack. Details are sketchy at the moment as to exactly what time it happened, so if you have any information, please let us know.
“Thankfully the victim only sustained minor injuries but this was a traumatic experience, the consequences of which could easily have been catastrophic. Carrying any dangerous weapon can destroy lives, and we will respond to any information on those who store, carry or use them in our communities.
“We also have a Dispersal Zone in place until today in the New Brighton area following this incident and other reports of anti-social behaviour. Full details can be found below but please report any incidents or concerns to us and we will take action.”
