Man arrested following incident on Victoria Street, Liverpool

We have arrested a man following an incident on Victoria Street this morning (Sunday 8 August).
At around 4am we received a report that a man had suffered a head injury following an altercation outside Heaven nightclub.
It was reported that the victim was pushed to the ground and hit his head on the pavement.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital for his injuries which are not life-threatening.
Police arrested a 34-year-old man from West Derby on suspicion of Section 18 Assault at the scene.
He was taken into custody and will be questioned by police.
CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are being carried out and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Chief Inspector Col Rooney said: “We are in the early stages of an investigation into an altercation on Victoria Street this morning which left a man injured, fortunately not more seriously, and we would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
“While we have made a swift arrest, our enquiries continue. If you were in the Victoria Street area this morning and saw anything, please contact us as information you hold could be vital to our investigation.
“After a long and difficult lockdown we want our City Centre to be a safe place for all in Merseyside to enjoy and we simply will not tolerate such acts of violence on our streets. With the public’s help we can make our streets safer and I would urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward.”
