Latest News 2.jpg

We have arrested three males following an assault in Southport this morning (Monday 23 August).

At around 1.40am we received a report of an altercation on Scarisbrick Avenue near Chop House bar.

During the altercation, it was reported that a male victim had been stabbed.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital for knife wounds. His condition is described as stable.

Officers located two males, aged 14 and 15, who had been detained by door staff, and arrested the males on suspicion of Section 18 Assault.

Following extensive CCTCV enquiries, a third suspect, aged 16, was located on Southport Promenade. He was detained and arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Assault.

All three suspects have been taken into custody and will be questioned by police.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the incident and extensive CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are being carried out.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the attack or who has any information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: “This was an appalling incident leaving a man injured and we simply will not tolerate such violence and anti-social behaviour in our communities.

“While we were able to make three swift arrests this morning, this would have been awful for anyone to witness and our enquiries into the incident continue.

“If you were in Southport town centre in the early hours of this morning and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know. Information you hold could be vital to our investigation.

“Our message is clear to those who choose to carry knives: it is just not worth the risk. We work tirelessly as a Force to tackle knife crime and if you carry a knife it is only a matter of time before you end up hurt or arrested.

“We will continue to work tirelessly with the public and our partners to prevent violence and remove the scourge of  knife crime from our streets. If you have any information about this incident or knife crime in your community then please come forward, either directly or anonymously.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information can contact us via @MerPolCC on Twitter or Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook quoting reference 21000585937.
