We have arrested a woman and recovered a handgun following a warrant in Huyton last night, Tuesday 17 August.
At around 11.15pm, officers entered a house on Cassino Road and located a handgun (pictured), which has been forensically recovered.
A 44-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and has been taken to a police station for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith from our Firearms Investigation Team said: “Another firearm removed from the streets is pleasing to see, and we will be making enquiries to see if this weapon has been used in any incidents as a priority.
“We understand the worry that the shooting in Huyton on Monday will have caused for the community, and action like this shows our determination to remove all dangerous weapons from the streets, which can cause, fear, harm and devastation.
“We see shootings, robberies and other distressing crimes committed with such items, so it’s vital we know where they are being stored before they are used.
“If you have any concerns about any weapons, drugs and other illegal items being stored, carried or used, come forward directly or anonymously. We’ll use all available powers, working alongside all our partners in Knowsley, to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit.”
