Police officers can confirm that the body of the man found in Birkenhead Park on Thursday 30 December is that of missing 76-year-old John Connors.
He has been formally identified and officers are supporting his family at this difficult time.
His death is being treated as unexplained and a post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of his death.
We can confirm officers are today, Thursday 30 December, at Birkenhead Park in Wirral.
Emergency services were contacted at 2.05pm following reports that the body of a male had been discovered in the lake.
The male was removed and he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.
An investigation is currently underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area. The area around the lake is currently cordoned off.
