We have arrested two men after a burglary in Walton this morning (Monday 13 December) with a little help from Police Dog Quga.
At around 4.30am officers received a report that five men had broken into a shop on Walton Road.
As officers cordoned off the shop, Police Dog Quga who was brought to the scene, noticed a silver Ford Fiesta drive off from the rear of the store towards Westminster Road.
PD Quga gave chase and was almost struck by the vehicle in the process. Officers then saw two men inside the property who, upon seeing PD Quga, emerged from the premises and were arrested at the scene.
The two men aged 23 and 21 from Liverpool were arrested on suspicion of burglary.
They were taken to a police station in Merseyside for questioning by detectives and remain in custody.
Detective Inspector Jennie Beck said: “Although we have made two arrests this morning officers are still searching for three men involved in the incident.
“If you live in the area and saw the burglary take place or the silver Ford Fiesta that drove away from the store this morning please contact police as soon as possible.
“We will use all resources available to us – including PD Quga and her Police Dog colleagues – to find and bring to justice anyone suspected of being involved in a burglary.
"If you see or hear anyone acting suspiciously close to homes or businesses, let us know and we will work alongside our partners in finding those responsible."
