A 79 year-old man who died at a house in Woodfall Road in Old Swan on the evening of Wednesday 29th December has been formally identified as Anthony Lavender.
Officers were contacted at 11.50pm following reports of a domestic incident.
Patrols attended and found Mr Lavender collapsed with a head injury. CPR was commenced and the North West Ambulance Service attended but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A 37 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Mr Lavender’s next of kin have been informed.
A post mortem has taken place. Further enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death.
