We have arrested two men following an assault in Wavertree this morning (Friday 30 July).
At around 4am we received a report that three men known to each other were involved in an altercation at an address on Wavertree Road.
It was reported that, during the altercation, one of the males was stabbed in the back with a knife.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police arrested two men, a 22-year-old from Scunthorpe and a 22-year-old from Wavertree, on suspicion of Section 18 Assault.
They have been taken into custody and will be questioned by officers.
Officers will remain in the area while CCTV, house-to-house and forensic enquiries are carried out.
Detective Inspector Graeme Osborne said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation into an appalling assault in Wavertree this morning, which left a man injured.
“While our officers made two swift arrests, our enquiries continue so if you have any information please come forward and let us know.
“Knife crime can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also the offender. As a Force we will continue to take action to find weapons and those who use them to cause fear and harm in our communities.”
