Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Huyton last night, Thursday 1 July, are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Shortly after 5.55pm, emergency services were called to Newway following reports that a man had been shot twice in the chest in the street.
The man, aged 26, was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supporting by specialist officers.
An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are currently being carried out in the local area.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Hurst, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a tragic incident which has seen a young man lose his life at a very young age. We are determined to find whoever was responsible as soon as possible, and we need anyone with information of any kind to come forward.
"We believe that the man was alone in Newway when he was shot twice in the chest by another male in a targeted attack. We also believe the gunman was riding a bike and may have made off in the direction of Liverpool Road.
"Please contact us urgently if you have mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage from Newway and the surrounding area yesterday afternoon. We are making progress with the investigation, and any additional intelligence we can gather could be vital in bringing whoever did this to justice.
"There is no place in Merseyside for firearms, and anyone who stores them or uses them to cause fear, injury or worse are not welcome here. The person who was responsible for this does not deserve to be walking on the streets of Merseyside.
