We are investigating after the attempted theft of an ATM machine in Haydock on Thursday 25 March.
At around 2.45am we received a report that the ATM machine at Haydock News on Church Road, was being tampered with.
Officers found that the ATM had not been removed but there was significant damage to the shop caused by the attempt to steal the ATM.
An investigation is underway and CCTV and forensic enquiries have been carried out.
Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan said: “Even though on this occasion the attempt to steal the ATM was not successful, we take all incidents of this nature really seriously and an investigation is ongoing.
“If you see any suspicious behaviour near to ATM machines, or see any unfamiliar vehicles which cause concern, call 999 and we will take action.
"Likewise, if you witnessed the incident on Thursday morning, saw anything suspicious or captured anything of note on mobile phone or dashcam, please come forward as it may be the key to our investigation.”
