We have arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving and seized an electric bike and drugs following an incident in Sefton Park yesterday, Tuesday 30 March.
At around 5.30pm, Matrix officers were called to Sefton Park to reports of high-powered bikes being driven at speed around and through the park and endangering pedestrians. A short time later, a man was detained in the park on a high-powered electric bike, and found in possession of cannabis (below).
The 32-year-old man from Aigburth was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving; drug driving; and possession of cannabis. He has been taken to a police station for questioning. The bike was seized.
Matrix Chief Inspector Sarah Jones said: “The weather and easing of restrictions meant that Sefton Park was busy yesterday, with many families and others enjoying the sunshine. This reckless driving could have had catastrophic consequences for anyone nearby, and will have been horrifying to witness at close hand.
“It beggars belief that someone would behave in this way and we believe that more bikes were being ridden in the area around this time. If you saw or captured anything, either living locally with CCTV, passing in a vehicle with dashcam, or on another device, let us know.
“We are absolutely determined to find all of those responsible and ensure that this dangerous behaviour is not repeated.”
