Christian Zeitel, 32, of Wiesbaden, Germany was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment (suspended for 18 months)

Jan Max Weigt, 33, of Gros-Genau, Germany was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment (suspended for 18 months)

Detective Sergeant Phil Ryan, said: “This was a long-running and complex investigation into a serious incident, which led to violence and a great deal of distress and inconvenience to those visiting and working in the city centre that night.

“We understand the frustration from those who saw previous cases connected to UK nationals suspected on an involvement in this incident. Due to their country of origin and other factors, this investigation took longer, but we’re pleased that those involved have now been through the courts.

“We take all reports of violence seriously and as with all offences of this nature, officers work alongside colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), who provide charging and prosecution advice.

“We will continue to work hard with our partners to ensure the city remains a safe place, with a good reputation which encourages people to continue to enjoy what the city has to offer. Our primary aim is to protect the public and ensure they have a night out in a safe environment.”
