Officers have today seized a handgun and bullets as part of an international operation into the use of encrypted phones by criminals.
As part of Operation Venetic, a targeted search took place today in Huskisson Street, Toxteth where a firearm and ammunition have been recovered.
Detective Inspector Lee Wilkinson said: “Every single weapon we take off the streets and out of the hands of criminals helps to make Merseyside safer.
“Operation Venetic has led to more than 100 arrests here in Merseyside and identified around 60,000 users of encrochat worldwide all involved in coordinating and planning the supply and distribution of drugs and weapons, money laundering and other criminal activity often linked to organised crime.
“We will continue to work with law enforcement agencies across the world to disrupt the criminal activity of those involved, seize their weapons, drugs and ill-gotten cash, and protect our communities from harm”
