We can confirm that officers are in the Garston area after shots were fired this afternoon, Tuesday 11 May.
At around 1.45pm, armed officers were called to Chesterton Street to reports of shots being fired. Evidence of a shooting was found in the street but nobody has been reported as injured.
Witness, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out and a road closure is in place at the junction of York Street and Lyon Street.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith said: "We're initially looking to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, or saw anyone making off around this time. Your description, CCTV, dashcam or other information could help us find those responsible quickly.
"To fire a weapon in a residential area in the daytime is incredibly reckless. Thankfully on this occasion, it appears nobody was injured, but we're determined to put those involved before the courts.
"We've seen a big decrease in such incidents in the past 18 months and those communities affected by gun crime and other violence are often the key to this success, leading weapon seizures and the arrest and conviction of people who bring such lethal weapons onto the streets. Tell us what you know and we'll take action."
Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact our social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ or call 101, with reference 21000301868.
