Officers have arrested a teenager and seized a knife following an incident in Huyton yesterday, Monday 3 May.
At around 11.50am, officers were called to Liverpool Road to reports of a male seen in possession of a knife. Patrols located a male near to Fincham Road, and he made off on foot, but was tracked by our dog patrol hiding in a garden on Fincham Green. A lock knife was located nearby (pictured below).
A 17-year-old boy from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place and possession of cannabis. He was taken to a police station for questioning and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Community Policing Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said said: “A concerned member of the public alerted us to this worrying incident and thanks to them and the swift response of officers, a male was identified and a weapon seized, as this investigation continues.
“We work tirelessly to identify and remove from the community those who store, carry and use weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners. As in this case, the biggest key to this success can be those who live in the area and see or hear information.
“If you witness anyone carrying a weapon, call 999 immediately and we’ll do the rest. If you have any other information about weapons being stored, come to us direct or anonymously via Crimestoppers. The consequences of knife crime can be devastating for so many people, and every single weapon we seize is a risk removed from the streets.”
Always call 999 if a crime is in progress, or pass information on via @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook.
