Officers arrested three people and seized three firearms in Aigburth yesterday, Thursday, 13 May.
At around 3.45pm, officers carrying out enquiries at an address in Parkfield Road located a handgun, two shotguns, and ammunition during a search.
Two males, aged 16 and 17, and a 16-year-old female were arrested on suspicion of possession of a section 1 firearm and possession of cannabis. They remain in custody for questioning.
The firearms have been forensically recovered and will be taken for examination to establish if they are linked to any incidents.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: "The recovery of these guns means yet another three dangerous weapons have been taken off our streets and can no longer cause harm of fear in our communities.
"This is a significant seizure and using all available tactics, we will continue to be proactive in our efforts to find all weapons and bring those involved in serious and organised crime to justice. We put substantial resources into tackling gun crime on a daily basis, and recoveries such as this demonstrate our determination to take weapons off our streets.”
Anyone with information on where firearms are being stored is asked to contact Merseyside Police via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police CC, on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
