At around 9.15pm on Friday 29 October officers were called to a house on Percy Road to reports of damage being caused to a front door.
No injuries were reported and house-to-house, witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson said: "We initially believe this was a targeted attack, and are keeping an open mind as to the motive. If you live locally or were passing at around 9.15pm and saw or heard the incident or anything suspicious, please come forward and we will take action.
"Recent months have seen a significant decrease in shootings across Merseyside, and they remain especially rare in Wirral. We want to keep things that way, and information those communities affected can be key to tackling the issue. Tell us what you know and those involved and their weapons will be removed from the streets."
