At around 11pm last night we received a report of an altercation between a group of males outside the Twelfth Man pub in Anfield.
Officers attended and, following a short foot chase detained a man on Burnard Street. A second man attempted to make off on foot but was also detained by police.
The two men, aged 19, from Liverpool and 40, from the Fleetwood area of Lancashire, were arrested on suspicion of affray.
They have been taken into custody for questioning.
No injuries were reported and no weapons were seen.
CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “The arrests last night show that we simply we not tolerate such violence and anti-social behaviour in our communities.
“This would have been a distressing incident for anyone to witness and our enquiries continue.
“If you were in the Walton Breck Road area last night and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please get in touch.
“Similarly, if you were driving in the area and have dashcam footage then please review it and if you see anything let us know. Information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.”
