We have issued CCTV images of two males we believe may be able to assist enquiries into a serious assault in Liverpool city centre.
It was reported a fight started between two groups of males on Wood Street at about 12.30am on Saturday, 21 August.
During the altercation, one man attempted to calm the situation but was punched to the face by two males. He fell to the floor where he was then kicked to the head by one of the offenders.
He was treated in hospital for serious leg and head injuries, and is now recovering at home.
CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out in the local area and detectives have issued CCTV images of two males they believe could assist with their investigation.
Detective Inspector Craig Turner said: “This was a shocking attack on a man simply trying to defuse a dangerous situation so that others would not get hurt.
“We have carried out a number of CCTV and witness enquiries, and are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the males pictured.
“If you were in the area at the time and may have witnessed this incident or have any information about it, we would also like to hear from you.
