Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the M62 Eastbound (towards Manchester).
Reports were received of the collision at about 11.35pm and police officers, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service are currently in attendance.
M62 has been closed in both directions between junctions 7 and 8 and is expected to be closed for some considerable time to allow for investigations to be carried out at the scene.
Diversions have been put in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area and find use alternative routes.
We realise that this will cause disruption and would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst investigations are carried. A further update will be provided once the motorway is reopened. Traffic and travel bulletins on local radio stations will also be kept up-to-date with the status of the closure."
