Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a burglary in Thatto Heath on Wednesday 27 April.
At around 3.50am it was reported that a resident on Norton Grove noticed an intruder looking into his garden shed and went out to investigate.
While the resident was in the garden, the intruder lashed out at him and he received two cuts to his face from a bladed weapon. The suspect then made off.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment and is now recovering from his injuries.
The suspect is described as a white male, around 6ft tall and slim build.
An investigation is underway, and detectives are conducting extensive CCTV and witness enquiries in the area.
Local Policing Inspector Rob Budden said: “This was a very nasty incident for the victim which was an unprovoked attack on his own property.
“People have every right to be able to live in their home without of fear of being attacked in this way, and I would appeal for residents in the area to check your CCTV footage to see if it has captured any intruders in the early hours of Wednesday morning between 3am and 4am.”
