A 15-year-old male has been charged following reports of an assault in Sherdley Park, St Helens on Saturday evening (2 April).
It was reported just after 10pm that the victim, a 16-year-old male, had been struck to the side of the head.
Police patrols attended and a search of the park was undertaken while the victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.
A metal pole, believed to have been used to strike the victim, was later found in St Helens and recovered by police for forensic examination.
A 15-year-old male from Lydiate was arrested and has now been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and breach of a criminal behaviour order. He was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 5 April).
