Man arrested and cannabis seized after foot pursuit in Halewood

Officers arrested a wanted man yesterday (Wednesday 27 April) after he attempted to flee from a house with a bag full of cannabis in Halewood.

Patrols attended the house at around 10am to make an attempt to arrest the man, when he tried to make off through a back door carrying a large sports bag. He was detained by an officer in a neighbour’s garden following a short foot pursuit, and the bag was found to contain a significant quantity of cannabis.

A search of the house followed and officers discovered 1.5kg of cannabis, 22 cannabis seedlings, drugs paraphernalia associated with the supply drugs and a large ‘zombie’ knife (below).

A 33-year-old man from Halewood was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs (cannabis). He was taken into custody for questioned, and has now been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Inspector Paul Makin said: “We have recovered a large quantity of illegal drugs during this incident, as well as a knife clearly capable of causing fear, serious injury or worse.

“We know that those involved in the dealing of drugs use threats, violence and intimidation in order to maintain their illicit trade, and do not care about the impact this has on the communities in which they operate.

“Our officers are determined to keep communities safe and will take all necessary steps to make sure suspects are put before the courts. We will relentlessly pursue anyone who attempts to evade justice.
