We have arrested a man and are appealing for information after a van failed to stop for police in Walton yesterday, Sunday 11 December.
At around 8.45pm, a police officer on patrol saw a grey Volkswagen had a flat tyre on County Road, but the driver failed to stop despite being indicated to do so by the officer.
The van has then been driven at speed and went through several red lights and onto pavements.
After a brief pursuit, the vehicle has stopped on Hampden Street and three males have exited the vehicle and made off on foot.
With the support of the National Police Air Service, a 31-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving while disqualified and failing to stop.
He remains in police custody at this time.
Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “This was dangerous and reckless driving and could have easily caused a serious collision. Although we have made an arrest, we are still appealing for information to help our ongoing enquiries.
“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of County Road and Hampden Street who saw the grey Volkswagen, or captured its movements on either dashcam or Ring doorbell footage to contact us. Any piece of information could be vital to our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 22000913473.
