Appeal for information following assault in Southport

We have arrested a man on suspicion of assault following an incident in Southport in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 6 July.
 
At around 2.25am, officers were informed of an altercation between two men on Nevill Street. One of the men, in his 30s, was reportedly knocked to the floor, sustaining a head injury. He was taken to hospital for assessment and is currently stable.
 
A 23-year-old man was located near to the scene and arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He remains in custody for questioning.
