We are appealing for information following an assault outside the Dog House pub in Wavertree yesterday, Sunday 3 July.

At around 11.30pm we received a report of an altercation between two men outside the pub on Church Road.

It was reported that  one of the men was knocked unconscious onto the pavement during the altercation.

The suspect was reported to have made off from the scene in the direction of Heathfield Road.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as white male, early 20s with short brown hair. He was wearing a dark coloured hoody and dark coloured shorts at the time of the incident.

CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is asked to contact police.

A road closure is in place on Church Road between Smithdown Road and Kenyon's road this morning, Monday 4 July, while forensic enquiries are completed. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “We are in the early stages of an investigation into a serious assault outside the Dog House pub yesterday evening which left a man injured. We will not tolerate such violence in our communities and we are determined to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you were drinking at the pub or in the Church Road area yesterday evening and saw anything suspicious, or the man described making off from the scene then please let us know.

“Similarly if you were driving along Church Road and have dashcam footage then please review it and tell us if you see anything. All information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting reference 22000470624. You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111, or their online form at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously.
