A man has been arrested following a shooting in Wavertree last night (Tuesday 7 June).

Officers were called to the area of Mill Lane's junction with Deverell Road just after 6.10pm to a report that four men in dark clothing and with their faces covered were chasing one another on a bike and scooter when a shot was fired.

A short time later, at around 7.10pm, officers were called to a property on Mill Lane where they found damage to the window of a house consistent with a shot being fired.

There were no reports of anyone being injured.

Officers continue to carry out forensic, CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries.

High visibility patrols have been deployed to the area today and officers are speaking to local residents.

At this stage, the shooting is believed to have been targeted.

An 18-year-old man from Wavertree was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Section 5 firearm and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis). He has been taken into custody to be questioned.

Detective Inspector Cat Walsh said: “We are making good progress in this investigation, and have made an arrest, but we continue to urge anyone who was in the area after 6pm on Tuesday and may have witnessed anything suspicious at all to come forward.

“We are also appealing to anyone who has CCTV, dashcam or footage on any other devices to take the time to check them to see if they have captured footage that could help us find those responsible.

“It is completely reckless to fire a gun in a residential street such as this, and we are fortunate that no-one was hurt.

“Member of our communities simply want to live their lives free from the fear of this happening on their doorstep, and we are committed to stopping anyone who risks their safety by carrying and using weapons.

“Any information you have could be vital to our enquiries so please, tell us what you know so that we can remove dangerous weapons and those who use them from our streets.”
