We arrested a man and woman after a burglary at a social club in Walton in the early hours of today (Monday 6 June).
It was reported a man and woman had forced entry to Dunny's Sports Bar on Stalmine Road at about 3.30am by smashing a window, before walking towards Rice Lane.
Patrols attended and detained a man on Clock View Drive a short time later.
The female suspect made off on a bicycle upon seeing the officers, into the grounds of flats nearby.
Officers assisted with police dogs located her and upon hearing a police dog, she emerged from bushes. The discarded bicycle and a hat were then located by the police dog, and a torch and gloves were seized during a search of the woman.
A 50-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Walton, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped for theft. He has been taken into custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “The burglary of business premises is not a victimless crime – it can impact on people’s livelihoods, their income and can of course have an emotional effect on victims.
“Since we launched Operation Castle in 2018, our dedicated operation to reduce the number of burglaries in Merseyside and bring offenders to justice, we have seen offenders sentenced to a total of more than 500 years in prison and seen burglary offences decrease year on year.
“information from the public about suspicious activity in their area is a vital part of our efforts to put offenders before the courts and prevent them offending again.”
