We arrested two men yesterday (29 June) in connection with a shooting in Wavertree on 26 April.

A report was received just after 12.15am that a woman in her 50s had been shot in the leg at house on Deverell Grove.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.  She has since been discharged.

Just after 12.15am it is believed a man had entered the address looking for someone and as he was leaving shots were fired, one of which hit the victim in the leg.

The offender then escaped on a motorbike with two other males and it is believed the motorbike was driven down Mill Lane, towards Edge Lane.

Crime scene investigators carried out a forensic examination at the scene, and house to house and CCTV enquiries were undertaken by detectives in the area.

Yesterday (Wednesday 29 June) a 33-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He was taken into custody and has since been bailed.

A 27-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and remains in custody.

A 16-year-old male arrested on 16 May on suspicion of Section 18 wounding was released under investigation.

Detective Inspector John Mullen said: "This incident left a woman with a serious leg injury and a community in shock. Fortunately, the victim is now recovering from her injuries but the distress this incident  caused will take a lot longer to heal.

“We believe the house was targeted rather than the woman who was hurt, but our enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are continuing.

“We are making progress in the investigation, but appeal to anyone with information or dashcam or ring doorbell footage to come forward and tell us what they know.

“We will continue to target anyone who stores, carries and uses firearms on the streets of Merseyside. Warrants, stop checks, land searches and proactive patrols happen every day of the year to disrupt the activities of these offenders.

“Guns do not belong on the streets of Merseyside and we will do everything within our power to ensure those responsible are brought to justice, and their weapons taken out of circulation.”

If you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage or information about this incident, please DM our social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 22000283903.
