We have arrested a man following an assault in Liverpool last night, Saturday 26 March.

At around 10.30pm we received a report that a man had suffered a head injury following an altercation outside McCooleys bar in Concert Square.

It was reported that the victim was punched, fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement.

Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police arrested a 42-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of Section 18 Assault at the scene.

He was taken into custody and will be questioned by police.

A scene was in place in Concert Square following the incident last night has now been lifted.

CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “We are investigating an assault last night which left a man with serious injuries and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.

“While we have made a swift arrest, our enquiries continue. We know that Concert Square would have been very busy at the time of the incident, so if you were out in the area last night and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know.

“We want our City Centre to be a safe place for all in Merseyside to enjoy and we simply will not tolerate such acts of violence on our streets. With the public’s help we can make our streets safer and I would urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101 with reference 22000210482.
