Two arrested and drugs seized in Wallasey

We arrested two men after a car was stopped at the Wallasey Tunnel entrance in the early hours of today (Thursday 5 May).

A grey Fiat Punto came to the attention of police on Gorsey Lane, Wallasey after an officer in a vehicle behind smelled cannabis.

The car was stopped a short time later at the tunnel entrance for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act at the approach to the Wallasey tunnel at around 12.30am.

Following the search, a quantity of cannabis and cash was recovered. The car was seized and the driver and passenger detained.

A 39-year-old man from Liscard was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a controlled Class Bdrug  (cannabis), drug driving, driving with no insurance, and theft of a motor vehicle.

A 34-year-old man from Beechwood, Wirral was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis) and theft of a motor vehicle.

Both men have been taken into custody to be interviewed. 

Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton said: “Thanks to the vigilance of this officer, cannabis and cash have been seized and two suspects arrested.

“Our officers are on patrol every day disrupting those who use the road network in Merseyside to engage in criminal activity, whether transporting drugs, weapons or risking the safety of others by drink and drug driving.

“We will continue to proactively police our communities to root out those who are prepared to transport and peddle drugs to vulnerable people, and bring them to justice.”
