Man arrested following attempted ATM theft in Bootle

We have arrested a man after an attempted theft of an ATM in Bootle in the early hours of yesterday morning, Thursday 3 November.
At around 2.30am, staff at Asda on Strand Road noticed that an attempt had been made to remove ATMs, by suspects who made off empty handed in a vehicle. Following CCTV enquiries, a dark grey BMW 5 was located by armed officers a short time later on Seth Powell Way, Huyton, which is suspected as having been stolen. A man was detained in gardens on Berryedge Crescent, Huyton.
A 42-year-old man from Aigburth was arrested on suspicion of Going equipped for theft; and Theft of a motor vehicle. He has been taken to a police station for questioning. Enquiries continue, including forensics and CCTV.
Detective Inspector Samantha Davies said: "Although this was an unsuccessful attempt, the inconvenience caused to the business and customers will be significant, and these incidents of course risk the safety of those nearby.
"One man is in custody, but our enquiries are ongoing to locate other people or vehicles who may have been involved. If you have any information, and in particular captured footage of this dark grey BMW 5 driving at high speed between Bootle and Huyton at around 2.30am, either on dashcam, CCTV or doorbell devices, please let us know."
