Man jailed for six years for possession of firearm

A man from Liverpool has been jailed after a firearm was discovered in the garden of a property in Huyton.

Adam Sullivan, aged 26, of Altmoor Road was sentenced to 6 years for possession of a firearm at Liverpool Crown Court today, Wednesday 16 November.

On Monday 6 September 2021 officers received a report that a firearm had been found hidden inside black plastic bags down the side of a shed outside an address on Altmoor Road.

Officers confirmed the firearm was a Tokarev model TT33 type self-loading pistol, 7.62 calibre.

Forensic investigations found DNA from Sullivan on the internal spring and guide rod of the firearm.

Following further enquiries a warrant was executed on the same road on Tuesday 8 February and a quantity of cannabis recovered. 

Sullivan was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate and possession of a controlled drug of class B on the same date

Following a trial, Sullivan was found guilty of the firearms offence.

Detective Inspector John Mullen said: “This result shows how committed our officers are to making Merseyside a safer place by removing firearms and those that would use them from our streets.

“In this case and in so many others information from communities makes a big difference, so if you know where dangerous weapons are being stored, carried or used, let us know and we will take positive action.

“We’re absolutely determined to tackle serious organised crime, including gun crime, and we have dedicated teams that will act on information provided.”
