We have arrested a man and seized suspected stolen electric bikes following a stop check in Roby on Sunday, 4 September.
At around 5.40pm, officers stopped a BMW X5 on Wyndham Avenue and found brand-new high-value Giant electric bikes (pictured) which the driver could not account for. He was detained at the scene.
A 30-year-old man from Stockbridge Village was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle; handling stolen goods; driving without a licence and insurance; possession of criminal property; possession of cannabis; and possession of an offensive weapon, the latter three offences relating to items found from subsequent house searches.
He was questioned and released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Community Policing Inspector Dave Morgan said: "This arrest and the significant seizures shows once again how proactive policing can lead to uncovering of multiple offences, which we will now be investigating.
"Electric bikes are proving to be an emerging commodity for criminals, and we will do all we can to prevent their theft and use in other criminality. Pass on information and we keep taking positive action."
If you have any information about suspected stolen goods and the storage of weapons, drugs and other items, please come forward to @MerPolCC or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and we will do the rest. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
