Detectives are appealing for information following a cash in transit robbery in Yew Tree earlier today (Friday 7 April).
At around 9am, we received a report that a male had grabbed a cash box off a security guard outside Tesco Express, on Princess Drive.
The male, who was dressed in all black clothing, had his face covered and was wearing a baseball cap, has fled the scene in a white transit van.
Shortly afterwards, it was further reported that a van was on fire on Snowberry Road and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended to extinguish the flames.
A box has since been recovered.
We are in the early stages of an investigation and officers are currently in the area to carry out CCTV and witness enquiries to help find the person responsible.
Chief Inspector Rob Ross said: "We are in the early stages of the investigation and are keen to speak to anyone who may have saw the incident please get in touch.
"If you live in the area or were driving past at the time, please check you CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that might help with the investigation. The smallest detail could be the key to finding those responsible and removing them from the streets."
Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 231 of 7th April.
